Without Aadhaar card, your kid might not get school admission
Apart from other documents, the parents must also produce a copy of the Aadhaar card of the kids to get them admitted into the entry level classes.
Many schools which have put up the admission notice have asked for the copy of the Aadhaar card without mentioning ‘if applicable’.Instead they have stated that no application will be accepted if any of the listed documents are not attached. This has left many parents worried.
Last year as well similar situation prevailed when schools had made Aadhaar card mandatory. According to the parents, this is a “senseless demand” and schools should not make it “mandatory”.
Harjit Singh, a resident of Sector 36, said, “Schools should not make Aadhaar card mandatory for admission. Many schools have stated that application will be rejected if documents including a copy of Aadhaar card are not attached along with the form.”
He further added, “They must give time to parents and ask them to submit the Aadhaar number before the session begins instead of asking now.”
So far, out of around 15 schools, which have uploaded the admission notice, only St Kabir School in Sector 26 has mentioned ‘if any’ in front of Aadhaar requirement in the registration form.
AKSIPS school, too, have not made it mandatory. Ritu Bali, principal AKSIPS school in Sector 41, said, “We are not forcing the parents to give it at the time of admission but we are trying to convince parents to provide one as soon as possible.” Vivek High school has not asked for aadhaar.
Other schools have not specified any option. Gurukul Global school, Manimajra, has asked for Aadhaar card in case of EWS candidates as well. MRA senior secondary school and Saupin’s schoo, too, have asked for a copy of the Aadhaar card. Paragon school has asked for copy of Aadhaar card and also original for reference. Many other schools, too, have mentioned it.
HS Mamik president independent schools association said, “Regarding Aadhar card for students, we are following the DPI’s instructions. The department has made it very clear that it is mandatory to have an Aadhar card. We are only following instructions.”
Nitin Goyal, president Chandigarh parent’s association said, “Right to Education Act says that a child cannot be denied admission even if he does not have a birth certificate and aadhaar card is certainly an optional document. Schools insisting for Aadhaar card are in direct contempt of the Supreme Court.”
Director school education Rubinderjit Singh Brar refused to comment on the issue.
